Here are the young men (and women), the weight on their shoulders

Our most devoted commenter Ian recommends a couple of new bands:

Where did all these new "crystal" bands come from all of a sudden? Funny how certain words catch on everywhere at the same time. I guess X-tal were ahead of the curve on this one.

This band does a terrific cover version of "Life In Vain", one of my favorite Daniel Johnston songs ever, but I couldn't find a video of that one.

And one more we've been sort of debating the worth of (personally I think they're pretty superb):

Thanks to the next generation for bringing the noise.

Thanks for posting the "Keep it Coming" video, haven't seen that one for a long time, I've been to the place which it was filmed which is outside, it's the Brudenell Social Club, which around the corner for the bass player's flat.

The Vivian Girls are alright, I'll probably see them when they come over here in a month or 2.

You forgot probably the most popular one of the "shoegaze revival bands"... The Pains of Being Pure at Heart.

The funny thing about all these bands is the best of the bands, which in my opinion the Manhattan Love Suicides (and that's not because I make music videos for them) gets paid absolutely nothing for a gig while all the others get paid like 10 times what they get, for example The MLS get paid £50 and somebody like the Crystal Stilts get like £500.

Are your MLS videos on YouTube? I should post one of those.

The money thing may have to do with the Crystal Stilts being on Slumberland. There's a bit of excitement over here that Mike got his label up and running again.

Ya, and also all the bands besides The MLS are yanks so they have to pay for hotels and airfare.

My videos are on, just search users IanSchultz13

Thanks, I'll check that out when I get home. (Cannot access YouTube from work.)

That's perfect that the band with "Manhattan" in their name is the one NOT from New York.

Can you guess where the name comes from?

They are Leeds, or more specially the singer Caroline and the guitarist Darren are, I don't now where the bass player and drummer are from but the drummer we think was born on Maggie's Farm.

oh and I should have their new video up by next week.

my favourite new band is Ulterior, Suicide meets very early Jesus & Mary Chain, would love to see them live again.
